Can you tell me if Windows XP Firewall is any good on it’s own?

Harry Hood asked:

I’ve always used Norton’s Internet Security bundle with firewall, anti-virus, anti-spy ware etc., but the 2007 Edition has caused me so many problems. Seems it destabilizes other programs and drivers. I know Norton’s disables Window’s Firewall when it is setup and I don’t mess with the settings. I was never fond of Automatic Window’s Updates since I like to choose them myself. This version of Norton’s insists on begging me to let it turn on Automatic Updates. Plus it’s anti phishing is annoying. After having so many troubles and losing some key drivers like my video card drivers and having to reinstall them I just reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled all the software I use MINUS Norton’s. Since then I have had no problems at all a month now. I am wondering if I could just buy a separate anti-virus program and use Window’s Firewall and be safe? What is your experience/opinion of Norton’s 2007 Internet Security and just using Window’s XP Firewall with a separate anti-virus program?

Why do random unknown people add me as buddy on MSN Messenger? Is this a virus?

sand134 asked:

Recently I’ve been getting “add as buddy” requests from many unknown ids on MSN Messenger. I started blocking them after a few names started sounding the same and the person is never online. However I keep getting these. What happened? Is this a virus? Has my msn account been posted to a phishing site? How can I stop this?
